The Heart of America Youth Ballet (HAYB), located in Lee’s Summit, will perform full-length productions of the Coppélia ballet on November 11 and 12 at the Folly Theatre.
Coppélia, set in an 18th-century Polish village, is a charming and comedic ballet enchanting audiences for over a century. Coppélia is a girl who sits on her balcony all day reading a book. Swanhilda and Franz, a betrothed couple in town, are soon to be married. However, Franz is drawn to Coppélia and begins to fall for her instead. In a jealous rage, Swanhilda breaks into Dr.Coppelius’ Toy Shop, where Coppélia is always seen on the balcony. Chaos ensues when Swanhilda makes an important discovery. HAYB Company and Pre-Company dancers of all ages perform the three-act ballet’s leading parts.
In addition to the Coppélia shows, HAYB will continue the tradition of performing excerpts from the ballet at the Coppélia Magical Toy Shop Tea Party. The parties are an excellent opportunity to sample the full-length shows, including costume design and choreography.
